BTCX meets the chairman of the Swedish Bitcoin Association

Ahead of the annual Bitcoin Symposium, BTCX interviewed Linnéa, the chairman of the Swedish Bitcoin Association. We wanted to hear her thoughts on Bitcoin’s role in Sweden and the world, why she took on the leadership role, and what we can expect from this year’s symposium.

Why Bitcoin matters

If you had 30 seconds to convince a skeptic about Bitcoin, what would you say?

They would probably need to be more curious than skeptical to even listen! But in short - 87% of the world’s population lives with an unstable currency, and 1.2 billion people struggle with skyrocketing inflation. They can’t save for the future.

Here in Sweden, we have the privilege of having bank accounts and financial safety nets, but we take it for granted. Bitcoin is a solution for economic freedom and a global standard for sound money. But it would take far more than 30 seconds to grasp just how incredible this discovery is!

The Association: Why do people get involved in Bitcoin?

What made you step up as chairman?

We live in a time where "association death" (a decline in membership and engagement in organizations) is spreading, but so is mental illness! Why do we feel so bad when we have it so good? Maybe one of the answers is that we lack communities where we can take a break from our loud egos and instead work toward something bigger than ourselves.

The Bitcoin Association is such a place – not focused on rapid growth or short-term goals, but an organic movement emphasizing education, networking, and long-term thinking. When a company invites you to an event, it’s often about selling something. When an association does it, the meeting space is more neutral, with a focus on growing together.

Why did I take on the leadership role? Well, you get to lead and make decisions!

Bitcoin Symposium 2025: What can we expect?

Isn’t the annual symposium just for nerds and those already converted?

I think the most important thing about the symposium is meeting and getting to know each other – those of us who have started to grasp Bitcoin’s significance. It’s about being inspired to learn more at your own pace. Our ambition is for it to be suitable for both beginners and experts.

On Sunday, there will be parallel tracks where attendees can choose their focus. We want to offer both beginner-friendly sessions as well as deep dives for the hardcore enthusiasts to geek out on!
