On Tuesday, April 9, a curious and knowledgeable audience gathered for a well-attended and surprisingly fun event on something as "dry" as crypto taxes. But when both the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) and Divly are in the room, you know it’s going to be both educational and lively!

Full House & Educational – An Engaging Evening on Bitcoin & Taxes

Anna and Simon from the Swedish Tax Agency gave an open-hearted and pedagogical presentation – and truly impressed. They emphasized that they want to better understand the industry and are open to dialogue and collaboration to make the Swedish tax system more crypto-friendly and fair.

Some highlights from the Tax Agency’s part:

  • What you don’t need to report – and what you must report

  • The importance of saving documentation, even for old transactions

  • What a voluntary correction (self-reporting) means (and why it’s smart to do one if something is missing)

  • The Tax Agency’s question to the audience: How do we get more people to actually report their crypto transactions?

The Q&A session was both intense and insightful. The audience asked about everything from Lightning purchases to staking and stablecoins. Anna and Simon responded openly and took several valuable insights back with them to the agency.

It’s clear that tax rules are often poorly adapted to the crypto reality, despite the strong desire people have to do things right. Several attendees pointed out that even accountants lack the proper knowledge – highlighting how important this kind of dialogue and continued education is!

Sweden isn’t the worst!

After the break, the charming Carl from Divly took over the stage and guided us through Sweden’s tax situation compared to other Nordic and European countries. What we concluded was that Sweden isn’t the best – but we’re definitely not the worst!

Carl also showed how Divly’s tool can make filing your taxes both easier and smoother without needing to be an Excel or tax expert.

The evening ended with mingling, bubbly drinks, snacks, and a really good vibe. It was clear that both the audience and the speakers were equally engaged and relieved – realizing that you can talk about crypto taxes without falling asleep.

Huge thanks to everyone who came, asked questions, and made the evening a success! Special thanks to the Swedish Tax Agency – it means a lot that you’re out here listening to those of us who want to do the right thing and help shape a better-adapted tax system. And of course, to Divly, who with humor and clarity is ready to help us figure out what actually applies. Together, we’re making it easier to understand and file taxes!
